Dr. Jinying Zhu joins University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2014. She holds a B.S. in civil engineering from Zhejiang University in China and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Zhu's research focuses on non-destructive testing (NDT) and innovative sensing technologies of civil infrastructure and construction materials. These include developing rapid NDT techniques for concrete structures using air-coupled sensors, material characterization using ultrasonic waves, and analysis of wave propagation in heterogeneous materials.
Dr. Zhu and her students received the ACI James Instrument Award for research in nondestructive testing of concrete three times, in 2003, 2011 and 2012, respectively. She is the recipient of 2012 ASNT fellowship Award. She is an associate editor of ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering.
